The two behind The Barnyard

We’re Dan and Jamie — the couple behind the counter, behind the ideas, and behind The Barnyard. For as long as we can remember, we've dreamed up different ventures — from funny t-shirts to farm-style businesses and everything in between. A few years back, Jamie got a little crafty and etched a pair of coffee cups: one with a simple, elegant "K," and the other with a name we were playing with… JADA Coffee Co.

To us, coffee is more than just a drink. It’s memories. It’s family. It’s time shared, conversations had, and love poured one cup at a time. Fast forward a few years, and here we are — JADA Coffee Co., once just a dream, and it's grown into a reality: The Barnyard. It's so much more than we could have ever dreamt.

You’ll usually find Dan holding down the fort, while Jamie stays busy behind the scenes and pops in on the weekends. This little place is built on deep roots and real connection — and none of it would be possible without the incredible support of our community.

How did we come up with The Barnyard?

How did we come up with The Barnyard? Pretty simple, really — it’s been part of our lives for a long time. We’ve always referred to the barnyard at the farm that inspired it all. For Dan, it’s more than just a patch of land — it’s a place etched into his heart. The barnyard was the go-to gathering spot growing up. It didn’t matter if it was a pick-up game of baseball, go-kart fun, or just pausing on a hot day with a cold soda to watch the sun dip behind the fields — it all happened there. Some of Dan’s fondest memories are of sitting in the cow barn with the family dog Jack, side by side, taking in the quiet beauty of a sunset. Just a boy and a dog, watching the day fade. Those moments — simple, grounding, real — are what inspired The Barnyard you know today.

Roots & Community

- this is where it all began

Our Kanzler roots run deep — all the way back to when Ritzville was first being settled. In the 1880s, our great-great-grandparents, George and Marie Kanzler, homesteaded here. Their son Daniel and his wife Marie (our great-grandparents) later lived in the original homestead just northwest of the current farmhouse. In 1970 Marie was widowed. In the early 1980s, our grandparents Oscar and Laura Kanzler moved from Kent to care for great-grandma Marie because her health declined. Their son, Kenneth R. Kanzler, moved with them and joined the family farm operation. In 2020, Dan moved full-time to the farmstead after the passing of our father, Ken. Fast forward to today — from the barnyard at the family farm to The Barnyard on 1st. Ritzville has always been home. The roots here aren’t just deep — they’re alive, thriving, and growing through six generations. Watching our children understand the legacy of their great-great-great-grandparents is something we hold dear.

— a snapshot of the place where so many memories were made.

We built The Barnyard to share the kind of moments that last

— the quiet, the connection, and the comfort of something real.

Thanks for pulling up a chair and getting to know us.

When you're ready, come find us on 1st — the coffee’s warm, and the welcome is even warmer.
